Marine Engine Diagnostics is a method of analyzing an engine by connecting the engine’s Electronic Control Module (ECM) to a computer system. The connection is done using an adapter that is unique to the engine. Communication between the ECM and the diagnostics software offers valuable information about the engine.
Andy Lowe Marine Surveyor can connect to the ECM to collect such information as the actual engine hours, RPM runs history, current engine fault codes, historic fault codes and to simply understand how an engine has been used in its life. This information helps boat buyers make an informed decision. Has the engine recently been overheated? Has it been run at high RPM for most of the hours or low RPM while trolling?
We can perform detailed engine computer diagnostics of outboard engines on Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Evinrude/Johnson, and Mercury motors as well as Mercruiser inboard engines and most PWC’s. While we still perform all of the standard outboard checks performed by all marine surveyors such as inspecting the transom, mounting, startup, performance, corrosion checks, etc. we can also provide you with all of the data available in the engine’s computer to help you feel confident in your purchase.
